Things to avoid
Second Skin
If your artist has covered your new tattoo with ‘second skin’, this should stay on for 2-3 days. This will provide a sterile barrier for your fresh tattoo against any external bacteria.
If the ‘second skin’ begins to peel or leak follow these steps below;
• Remove the ‘second skin’ (sometimes submerging the area with warm water makes this easier)
• with warm water and fragrance free antibacterial liquid soap (carex, sanex etc) making sure to clean your hands thoroughly before.

• Pat dry with kitchen roll and allow to air dry until fully dry.
• Replace the ‘second skin’ with a new piece as instructed by your artist. This should last the remainder of the 2-3 days post procedure.
Once the 2-3 days have passed, remove the ‘second skin’ and clean the area thoroughly. Once dry, moisturise the tattoo by applying a thin layer of either Aveeno or Palmers natural cocoa butter. Continue to moisturise 3-4 times a day and washing twice a day for 1 week then slowly reduce the amount you moisturise without allowing the skin to dry out. (We always recommend moisturising your tattoos once a day after healing to keep them looking fresh and healthy)
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the studio, or alternatively your artist directly.
Cling film
If your artist has wrapped your tattoo using cling film;
• Once you get home, or no later than 3 hours after the tattoo, remove the cling film and wash with warm water and fragrance free antibacterial liquid soap (carex, sanex etc) making sure to clean your hands thoroughly before.
• Pat dry with a paper towel and allow to air dry until fully dry.
• Moisturise the tattoo by applying a thin layer of either Aveeno or Palmers natural cocoa butter

• Once moisturiser has been applied, re-wrap the tattoo with clingfilm and apply micropore tape if necessary
• Repeat this process 3 times daily (morning, mid-day and before bed) for 3-4 days
• Once 3-4 days have passed, remove the clingfilm, clean the area and continue to moisturise when needed – not allowing the tattoo to become dry.
Things to avoid with a fresh tattoo:
• Swimming – for at least a month after the procedure to prevent bacterial infection.
• Bathing – until the skin has returned to a normal state, we recommend against fully submerging the tattooed area. This reduces the risk of any unnecessary complications.
• Sun beds/sun exposure – until the tattoo has fully healed, exposure to direct natural sunlight or light from sun beds is not recommended. The healing area will be a lot more delicate and sensitive. After your healing stage is complete we recommend wearing a factor 50 sun screen on your tattoos to avoid fading and discolouration.

• Exercise – certain exercises are okay after a new tattoo however anything that may stretch the skin or cause trauma to the area is not recommended. If any exercises do take place, make sure to take extra care and thoroughly clean the tattoo as soon as possible afterwards.
• Products – take care not to expose the area to any other products other than the ones recommended by your artist. Avoid things like perfumes/aftershaves, deodorants, scented soaps etc, around the tattooed area. Once the tattoo is healed and the skin returns to normal, these things will be okay.
